Another win closer to that 4th spot

Chelsea continued to show grit to win at Swansea on Saturday evening. It was a match that started brightly for us when Fabregas scored a sublime left-footer in the fourth minute. It was his 50th Premier League goal and what a screamer it was. Hazard again with his blistering pace bamboozled the Swansea defence on the edge of their penalty area before offloading the ball to an oncoming Fabregas. Fabregas made no mistake. The ball went high up in the left-hand top corner and gave his former Arsenal teammate no chance. Chelsea was bouncing, Swansea was buckling. Swansea was there for the kill. Alas, no killer bunch was delivered. Swansea was terrible on the day, they looked out of sorts, stressed and yet Chelsea could not get another goal throughout their dominance of the match.

Once again Conte delayed substitutions from coming on to affect the match. He waited until the 80th minute again to bring on Willian for Hazard, Morata for Giroud and Pedro for Fabregas when Swansea started to believe they could score an equaliser. And they came close to doing so several times making it a nervy 10 minutes for the defending champions. The win also brought about Conte’s 50th win in the Premier League after 73 matches. team cfc

The win has brought us to within 2 points of Spurs who will play their game in hand on Monday evening against Watford. We will have to win all our remaining matches against Liverpool (6 May), Huddersfield Town (9 May) both at home and then away to Newcastle United (13 May). We end our season with the FA Cup final against Manchester United on Saturday 19 May 2018.

After 35 games played Chelsea has the following statistics. At home we have won 10 home matches, lost four and drawn three, scoring 28 goals and conceding 15 goals. Away from home we have won 10 matches, drawn three and lost five, scoring 32 goals and conceding 19. In essence, we have scored 60 goals, conceded 34 goals, drawn 7 and lost 9 matches with a combined point total of 66.
