Christian Pullsic, Captain America, was given his first start by Frank Lampard against Burnley and he did not disappoint as he scored his maiden hat-trick in the Premier League, the youngest Chelsea player to do so. He follows in the footsteps of Tammy Abraham who also got his maiden hat-trick against Norwich.

Chelsea won their seventh match on the trot in all competitions with the 4-2 victory against Burnley. Willian added a fourth goal two-minutes after Pulisic scored his hat-trick. Chelsea was cruising, perhaps taking their eye off the ball and within the space of four minutes, Burnley scored two goals just before the end of the match. This game was a test for the young players and they all came through with flying colours. Even Lampard passed the grade. Chelsea lies fourth with the same points as third-placed Leicester City (20) after nine matches.

Pulisic’s hat-trick is what most pundits described as the perfect hat-trick as he scored with his left, right feet and with his head. This game showed his class, his determination, his sheer will to succeed at Chelsea. This match announced his coming of age – and he is only 21.

In his previous matches when he came on as a substitute against Newcastle last week and in mid-week in the Champions League against Ajax – he showed his class. His ability to break the line, his vision, his passes, his eye for the goal.

Chelsea is growing in stature and with this new brand of playing is attracting a host of new admirers. Long may it continue.

But the match was made easy for Chelsea with the entire team defending and attacking well. The midfield partnership between Jorginho and Kovacic was again immense, the defensive partnership between Zouma and Tomori is growing and the link-up play between Alonso, Willian, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Abraham, and Pulisic was pure joy to witness.

On Wednesday evening (Halloween-eve) at the Bridge Chelsea will host Manchester United in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Long may this “spell” last.
