One such attack came when Fabregas passed the ball to Hazard just behind Manchester’s defender Jones and with a hop and spring in his step, he galloped towards goal. Hazard was about to pull the trigger when Phil Jones tripped him inside the penalty box. The referee had no choice but to call a penalty and Jones received a yellow card, much to the annoyance of the Chelsea players and fans.

As expected United dictated the match, having more of the ball and trying to penetrate the defensive shield of Chelsea. Again that shield held firm in the likes of Azpilicueta, Cahill and Rudiger with Moses and Alonso falling back whenever United was on the attack. Whenever United did break the defence they had our giant of a keeper to deal and he was clearly in no mood to have a goal scored against him. He threw himself, punched the ball and blocked everything that came his way. Sanchez did score but was ruled off-side after Courtois blocked the ball into his path. United seemed buoyed by this as they kept knocking on the door. Mourinho eventually sent on Lukaku and Mata but their presence did not make any dent in Chelsea resolute defensive display.

conte lifts the cupVery late in the match, Conte sent on Morata and Willian to give a reprieve to Hazard and Giroud who ran their socks off for Chelsea.

In the end, Chelsea held on to win 1-0 and to provide Conte with his first FA Cup and keep his amazing record of securing trophies in the last five seasons in charge at Juventus and Chelsea in between his stint as coach of the Italian team.

The win makes up for losing last season’s FA Cup final against Arsenal.
