Chelsea need to win against Huddersfield

Over the last few matches, we have won, drawn and lost a game – the only glimmer of hope has been Eden Hazard’s form but even he can’t carry the team all the time and last Saturday’s loss against West Ham proves this point.

In the hustle and bustle of the modern football era, Chelsea’s small team has probably suffered the most according to Conte. The breaks in between Champions League and Premier League matches, in particular, has been a bone of contention for Conte. And from the look at the next few fixtures…this problem is not going away. In between facing our old enemy Barcelona in the first leg of the round of 16 champions league match on February 20, 2018, we face Manchester United on the 24th February at Old Trafford, Manchester City on the 3rd of March at the Etihad and Crystal Palace at home on the 10th before facing Barcelona again on the 14th in Spain.

More closely, tonight we face Huddersfield away and on Saturday we face Southampton at home before playing against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup next week Tuesday.

Over the festive period starting on 23 December we face Sam Allardyce’s Everton at an early kick-off in Liverpool. Next up is Brighton on Boxing Day and on saying goodbye to the old year we face Stoke City on the 30th. On the 3rd of January 2018, we face one of our top-four rivals Arsenal and finally, we end our hectic schedule against Norwich in the FA Cup on Saturday, January 6, 2018.

A comforting thought is that we are still 3rd on the log on 32 points, leading a pack consisting of Liverpool (30), Arsenal (29), Spurs (28) and Burnley (28). We are three points behind second-place Manchester United (35) and a whopping 14-point gap behind log leaders Manchester City (46).

It has been reported that both Morata and David Luiz is out injured for tonight’s match against Huddersfield with Danny Drinkwater making a welcome return.
