Four wins in a row as Chelsea roars to victory

Chelsea finally turned up on Saturday afternoon beating a hopeless West Brom 4-0. Eden Hazard, the man of the match, scored a scintillating brace on either side of the halves with Spaniards Alvaro Morata and Marcos Alonso scoring the other two goals. This was by far the best performance in the league for Chelsea as club captain Gary Cahill echoed after the match, ‘everyone played their best game today.’

Hazard was a marked man, he was tripped, kicked, held back and made to lash back – but in the end, West Brom’s tactics (ala Man Utd) epically failed. He dusted himself off and showed the world what he was capable of…Hazard with the help of his teammates created havoc on the day. He dribbled, he swerved, he weaseled his way past defenders and he made sure their keeper kept looking like a fool. His assist to Morata was excellent, after picking up the ball in the middle of the park, he ghosted past defenders to unleash a shot that the keeper could only parry the ball onto an oncoming Morata who coolly slotted the ball home. Morata -nine goals now, was off celebrating and signaled an A with his fingers to pay homage to his wife (Alice Campello).

Several minutes later it was Morata who flicked on a ball from Fabregas to Hazard who ran clear of the defense and without any panic or fear coolly slotted the ball before the keeper could react. Chelsea was 2-0 up and coasting. Their third goal came off a Fabregas free-kick which left ALonos unmarked at the back of the goalpost, who received the ball at an acute angle where he controlled it with this left foot to steer it into the net. Chelsea celebrated the goal with gusto and a self-belief as they went into half-time feeling that all three points were in the bag.

After the break, it was business as usual with Chelsea controlling the match and Hazard causing problems. Fabregas had the space to roam, to steer passes to his forwards that kept hurting West Brom and in one of those genius moves, he looked up and saw Hazard running into space. Hazard controlled the ball and with two defenders with him, he coolly shifted them to one side and before their keeper could react he slotted the ball between the two defenders. It was pure ecstasy for Hazard and Conte set off with some elaborate celebrations. The job was done. Three points collected and for a brief few moments, Chelsea was second on the log before the game between Man Utd and Newcastle. On Saturday evening Chelsea found themselves in the third position with 25 points, Utd second with 26 points and Man City with 34 points. Spurs (23 points) dropped to fourth with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Burnley on 22 points.
