Chelsea suffered a vital blow to their top four chances when they drew 1-1 against Wolves on Sunday at the Bridge. Chelsea held all the aces up their sleeves as they dominated the possession, shots on target and yet failed to win against a resilient Wolves team.

The match soon took a familiar pattern, where Chelsea pushed and pushed to score whilst Wolves defended resolutely. Wolves plan was to frustrate Chelsea and hit them on the counter-attack. Their goal came in such a situation where against the run of play they pounced on the ball, sent through their striker Jimenez who scored off Azpilicueta’s legs in the 56th minute of the match. Chelsea looked dazzled by Wolves audacity to score against them. On came Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi to replace Kovacic and Pedro.

Loftus-Cheek made an immediate impact as he drove past players to create panic in Wolves penalty area only for Hazard to fluff his lines in front of goal. Chelsea was now playing a 4-3-2-1 formation for the last 20 minutes of the game. The match needed a Higuain to be at his best by hanging on the shoulder of Wolves defenders. At times he was doing this and almost scored. Just when we thought Chelsea was going to lose a vital three points up popped Hazard who received the ball from Willian and surrounded by Wolves players he scored a screamer of a shot past Rui Patricio in the 92nd minute of the match.

Chelsea is still in 6th position, one point off Manchester United, three off Arsenal and four off Spurs with a game in hand. There are only eight matches left except for Chelsea and Brighton. Hazard indicated after the match that ‘we will need to fight until the end to make it into the top four.’
