West Ham 1 - 1 Chelsea

Chelsea failed to fully capitalise on Manchester United’s defeat yesterday as they were held to a draw by West Ham.

West Ham took the lead just before half time when Jack Collison was fouled by Ashley Cole in the box and Alessandro Diamanti scored the resulting penalty.

Chelsea’s equaliser was also a penalty, awarded for a foul on substitute Daniel Sturridge, which Frank Lampard scored after having to retake it three times.

Chelsea pushed hard in the second half but the Hammers deserved their point.

Whilst a draw is not the ideal result for the Blues, it caps a good week for them, after their win at Portsmouth on Wednesday and the defeat suffered by Manchester United on Saturday.

United’s 3-0 loss at Fulham means this point extends Chelsea’s lead at the top of the Premier League to four points ahead of the important Christmas period.
