Frank Lampard defied calls to start with Mitchy Batshayi or Oliver Giroud the two most experienced strikers at Chelsea and kept faith in his young striker Tammy Abraham. Abraham repaid that faith in him by scoring the opening goal within the first four minutes with what commentators described as simply a strikers goal.

Abraham showed no fear as he pounced on the cross from captain Azpilicueta and nailed it into the post. Abraham was off the mark and his confidence grew by the minute thereafter. For all the near misses, failed penalty and shots against the post in the previous two matches – Tammy showed what he could do. Within minutes of Chelsea’s opener, Norwich equalized when a low cross into the penalty area was met by an oncoming Todd Cantwell, who knocked the ball into the net with his knee.¬†Carrow Road was rocking, the Canaries were buzzing around the pitch, sensing they could upset the more fancied Chelsea.

In the 17-minute Mason Mount popped up inside the penalty and with a routine jing, he buried the ball into the top right-hand corner. Mount, his second goal in as many matches, was simply irrepressible and loving every minute on the pitch. Just as Chelsea thought of going into the break with a 2-1 lead, Norwich striker Pukki scored a sublime goal to again in a counter-attack move to equalize the match at 2-2. This was Pukki’s fifth goal of the season after three matches.

Both teams were bent on winning the match as counter-attacking football became the thing before that man Abraham popped up again in the 68th minute of the match. It was a quick counter with Kovacic getting the ball and running into a gap before sliding the ball to Tammy who was standing on the shoulder of the two defenders. Like Mason Mount, he jing to the left and then to the right before coolly slotting the ball low and in between the defender to score the winner.

Lampard brought on Willian, Giroud, and Alonso to ease the match out for a thrilling away-win.
