Up and down December continues for the Blues

A run of four losses out of five matches was halted on Sunday (22 Dec) against Spurs with a morale-boosting 2-0 victory against our arch-rivals coached by Mourinho. The victory was a key moment, a moment to restart our campaign, to reinvigorate our season and to ease the pressure on Lampard. This was evident in the way Lampard celebrated the victory at Spurs’ new stadium. Fist pumping, shouting, and hand-clapping to our supporters in the away-stands. The victory vindicated Lampard’s 3-4-3 formation. It all looked well and a catalyst for the rest of our season.

But from that high at Spurs, we continued the downward trend at home. The 0-2 loss against Southampton was demoralising. It was a huge letdown. It was not part of the script. How could it be? We were so commanding against Spurs. We were so assured. We were back to winning ways. How on earth did we lose against a team that should be swept away? The same 3-4-3 formation did not work. Perhaps we needed Alonso, Kovacic, and Rudiger or simply we needed a Winter-break. Whatever the reasons were yesterday, it simply means we are now starting to look over our shoulder as a host of teams are closing in on our fourth spot.

This is a transitional season for us and hopefully, we will prevail and continue with the Lampard revolution. We simply have to. The silver lining is that we can buy some players during the January transfer window that could assist us in our current predicament. If so, who?

Games are coming in fast and furious over the next few more days. Next up is another London derby against Arteta’s Arsenal on Sunday, 29 December at 4 pm (CAT) and on New Year’s Day at 12:30 pm (CAT) we play Brighton. And then we move to the FA Cup on 5 Jan against Nottingham Forest.

Time will tell if we will prevail and finish within the top four. It is a transitional season for us. It is also about us as supporters and fans dragging our team across the line. They need our support. They need our encouragement and they need us to motivate them. We can do it. Show your support. Show your colours. Come on #ChelseaFC
